SwimAmerica – Stations 7 & 8: Advanced Stroke Skills, Breaststroke, Butterfly & Turns

SwimAmerica is a comprehensive swim instruction program designed for swimmers of all ages and abilities. The program uses a station-based approach to learning, where swimmers progress through specific skill goals at their own pace. Each station builds upon previous skills to help participants develop confidence, improve technique, and achieve swim competency for safety and enjoyment in and around the water.

Stations 7 & 8: Breaststroke, Butterfly & Turns
In this combined course, swimmers will continue developing advanced swimming skills by refining stroke technique, building endurance, and learning proper racing fundamentals. Participants will focus on mastering breaststroke and butterfly skills while improving freestyle technique with bilateral breathing and learning efficient turns.

Skills to Be Learned:
• Breaststroke kick
• Breaststroke swim
• Butterfly arms
• Butterfly swim
• Freestyle with bilateral breathing
• Proper swimming turns

Recommended Equipment:
• Swimsuit
• Towel
• Goggles are highly recommended (practice wearing and testing goggles in the shower before the first class)
• Rashguard shirt or wetsuit top is highly recommended for swimmers who get cold easily

SwimAmerica instructors are trained and supervised by the Head Coach of the Lakers Aquatic Club, Paul Kraft. Paul brings decades of swimming instruction experience, ranging from beginner learn-to-swim programs to coaching USA Swimming national qualifiers. He is a certified 6–12 science and mathematics teacher and grew up with a lifelong passion for Lake St. Clair. Paul is excited to return to his hometown community and help swimmers continue building confidence, technique, and safety skills in the water.
