Coming Soon March 2027: Detroit Irish TourTrips and ToursPresented by and Our trip includes: Round Trip Transportation - Via deluxe highway motorcoach. Equipped with reclining seats, overhead storage, & a restroom for your comfort & convenience. From Detroit's Colonial-era Irish soldiers serving at Fort Brady to today's vibrant GAelic League, Detroit's Irish roots run deep! The majority of the city's Irish came in the 1840's and 50's, fleeing the Great Hunger that killed a quarter of Ireland's population. These refugees settled in the then-far west side of the city and built the Corktown that we know today, Detroit's oldest neighborhood filled with quaint Victorian homes and brick streets. The Irish didn't just stick to Corktown, though. They left their mark throughout the city, from the west side to Greektown, home of the Old Shillelagh. This tour will explore the influence of Detroit Irish on the city's history and culture that survives today. And of curse, there will be a pub stop for a pint of the brown or a nip of the old uisce beatha!** This tour is led by historian Mickey Lyons, who earned a Masters Degree in Irish Language and Literature from Boston College.
