Open Swim: Adult (Age 18+)Aquatics ProgramAdult Swim/Lap Swim (Age 18+) Monday and Wednesday 7:30 - 8:30 p.m. $5 per entry: St. Clair Shores Resident (payable online) $8 per entry: Non-Resident (payable online) $50 annual adult pass: St. Clair Shores Resident (pass available online only) $60 annual adult pass: Non Resident (pass available online only) SCS Resident Senior Citizen (65+) FREE ANNUAL PASS (pass available online or call 586-285-8483 for assistance) Pool Rules: 1. For the safety and enjoyment of all participants, the lifeguard is in charge of the pool at all times and has final say in all rule interpretations. 2. One whistle blast from the lifeguard, all patrons must STOP, LOOK and LISTEN to the guard. 3. LONG whistle blasts from the lifeguard, all patrons must EXIT the pool IMMEDIATELY. 4. Every swimmer must take a soap shower before entering the pool. 5. Every swimmer must wear a swimsuit that has a lining. Undergarments, cutoffs and/ or gym shorts are not allowed in place of swimwear. 6. No street shoes or strollers are allowed on the pool deck. 7. Food or drink is not allowed on deck – except water in plastic containers and in designated areas. 8. Breath holding activities and/or prolonged underwater swimming is not permitted. 9. Running and horse play are prohibited on deck and in the pool. 10. NO spitting in the pool gutter. 11. No fighting 12. No hanging from Starting Blocks 13. Feet First entries; NO Flips, NO Twists, NO Backward Entries. Swim testing: Any swimmer entering the deep water may be required to perform a deep-water test during recreational swims. Adults may be asked to take a swim test at the lifeguard’s discretion. Deep End Test: At Lifeguard Discretion for Safety/ Endurance: 1. Swim one length of the pool or equivalent. 2. Tread water without touching the pool sides & bottom for 1 minute. 3. Deep Water Plunge: Swimmer must jump into the deep end and recover to the surface. Shallow Water Test 1. Float on back and roll to front. 2. Recover from floating position to standing position. Swimmers who cannot pass either test or refuse to take either test will be required to use their own Personal Flotation Device (PFD). If a Child is Dependent on a Lifejacket/ PFD, a parent/ guardian must remain within an arm’s reach of the child. Lap Swim 1. Swimmers should select a lane, suitable to your swimming speed when entering into a “current” lap swimmer. 2. Inform other swimmers in a lane before entering that lane. 3. When two or more swimmers are in a lane, please keep to the right side of the lane and circle swim. 4. When there are only two swimmers in a lane they may agree to swim side by side. 5. Slower swimmers must yield to faster swimmers at turns. 6. The lifeguard may ask a swimmer to move to another lane if they have not selected a lane appropriate for their speed. Open Swim 1. See swim testing policy above. 2. Only Coast Guard Approved PFDs are permitted during recreational swims. The use of these items is restricted to the shallow end of the pool. 3. Swimmers less than 48 inches in height MUST have a parent/guardian in the pool area. Parents must be in the pool with any child under 48 inches that did not pass the deep end swim test and must keep them within arm’s length at ALL times. 4. Children who are not FULLY toilet trained MUST wear a swim diaper. 5. Inflatable flotation devices are not permitted. 6. The lifeguard may restrict the use of pool toys, instructional equipment and other recreational equipment at any time. 7. Running, fighting, dunking, flips, sitting on shoulders and horseplay are not permitted. 8. If diving is allowed at the facility, diving is allowed only in designated areas. 9. Back dives and handstands from the side are not permitted. 10. Starting blocks are for the swim team and swim lesson use only. Family Swim/Special Events 1. At least one parent or guardian must accompany children into the pool when dependent on any form of floatation device. SEE OPEN SWIM RULES 2. All open swim rules apply. Water Fitness Classes 1. Be sure to go at individual pace. Do NOT overexert yourself. 2. Be respectful of the instructor and patrons, continuous talking is a distraction for participants trying to hear and the instructors trying to communicate. Instructors are responsible to provide safety reminders and need to be able to be heard.Fall/Winter 2026- 2027 -
Swim America Lessons: Parent Tot (Infant 6- 24 months)Aquatics ProgramWHAT is SwimAmerica? SwimAmerica is a program of swim instruction for people of any age. At its core is a station methodology of teaching and learning – a series of specific skills goals that individuals need to master one after the other – to achieve swim competency and ensure safety in and around the water. The program is designed so that learners can move forward at their own pace. Goals: introduce infants and tots into the aquatic environment and provide training so they can respond appropriately should they find themselves accidentally in the water. Students will learn to float and kick on their backs so they can get a breath when necessary. "Swimming" many students will learn to move through the water and get a breath when needed. All skills taught in this program set a strong foundation for effective strokes and a lifetime love of the water Recommended for class: SWIM DIAPER IS REQUIRED swim suit towel Goggles highly recommended depending on age and coordination, to be practiced and tested in the shower prior to the first day Rashguard shirt or wet suit top highly recommended if the student easily gets cold Instructors are trained and supervised by the Head Coach of the Lakers Aquatic Club, Paul Kraft. Paul has decades of experience in teaching swimming from learn to swim, to USA swimming national qualifiers. He is a certified 6-12 science and mathematics teacher. SwimAmerica is a comprehensive swim instruction program designed for swimmers of all ages and skill levels. At its core is a station-based teaching method that focuses on mastering specific skills in a progressive sequence. Each swimmer advances at their own pace while building confidence, improving swimming ability, and developing essential water safety skills needed for a lifetime of safe enjoyment in and around the water. This program is designed for swimmers who are building their foundation in the water. Through guided instruction and skill progression, participants will learn proper breathing techniques, floating, gliding, kicking, and safe water entry and recovery skills. Skills Covered Include: Station 1: Air Exchange Developing comfort and confidence in the water Water movement, breath holding, and controlled air release Face submersion and bubble blowing Wall bobs with proper air exchange Introduction to front floats and recovery Safe entry and exit from a seated position on the pool wall Instructor-assisted rollover skills Water Safety Skill: “Grab the wall, not a person!” Station 2: Floats and Glides Front float and recovery Front glide and recovery Back float and recovery Back glide and recovery Streamline bobs Rollover practice Water Safety Skill: “Rollover to get a breath, shout for help, and see where the wall is!” Participants will practice: Rollover skills Instructor-assisted jumps Station 3: Kicking Front glide, kick, and recovery Back glide, kick, and recovery Front glide with breaststroke kick and recovery Seesaw body movement Front glide with dolphin kick and recovery Continued rollover practice Water Safety Skill: “If you fall in, get back to the surface and DON’T PANIC!” Participants will practice: Jumping into the water and pushing off the bottom or using kicking and strokes to reach the surface Rolling over and performing a back glide with a kick to the wall What to Bring: Swimsuit Towel Goggles are highly recommended (practice wearing them in the shower before the first class to ensure comfort and proper fit) Rash guard shirt or wetsuit top is highly recommended for swimmers who become cold easily Instruction & Coaching: SwimAmerica instructors are trained and supervised by Lakers Aquatic Club Head Coach Paul Kraft. SwimAmerica is a comprehensive swim instruction program designed for swimmers of all ages and abilities. The program uses a station-based teaching method that focuses on mastering specific skills in a progressive sequence. Swimmers advance at their own pace while building confidence, improving technique, and developing the skills needed for swim competency and safety in and around the water. Stroke Development (Stations 4, 5 & 6) This course is designed for swimmers who are ready to build upon their foundational swimming skills and continue developing stroke technique, endurance, and water safety skills. Through progressive instruction, participants will improve freestyle, learn backstroke, practice additional swimming techniques, and gain confidence with advanced water skills and safety practices. Skills to be Learned: Freestyle Development: Freestyle swimming without breathing Freestyle swimming with proper breathing technique Rollover technique and recovery Side-glide-kick Sculling skills to improve water control and body position Front float sculling Breaststroke technique Double somersaults Backstroke & Advanced Water Skills: Extended freestyle swimming Backstroke technique Treading water Jumping in and treading water Sitting dive Kneeling dive Standing dive Water Safety Skills: Participants will continue developing important safety skills, including: “If you fall in, go to the wall and if you can’t reach it, ROLLOVER!” Jump in, reach the surface, rollover, shout for HELP, and swim toward the wall. “If you see something, shout something!” Jumping into the water and returning safely to the wall without goggles. Throwing a kickboard or noodle to a distressed swimmer. SwimAmerica – Stations 7 & 8: Advanced Stroke Skills, Breaststroke, Butterfly & TurnsAquatics ProgramSwimAmerica is a comprehensive swim instruction program designed for swimmers of all ages and abilities. The program uses a station-based approach to learning, where swimmers progress through specific skill goals at their own pace. Each station builds upon previous skills to help participants develop confidence, improve technique, and achieve swim competency for safety and enjoyment in and around the water. Stations 7 & 8: Breaststroke, Butterfly & Turns In this combined course, swimmers will continue developing advanced swimming skills by refining stroke technique, building endurance, and learning proper racing fundamentals. Participants will focus on mastering breaststroke and butterfly skills while improving freestyle technique with bilateral breathing and learning efficient turns.
